Small update.

To date we've given out 126 donation cards and still counting. Wow! That's quite a big number for one week's worth of work. So to those who haven't gotten a card but want to come for the camp, get one quick!!

For lower sec, the booth will only be open during break.
For upper sec, the booth will only be open during lunch.

Also, the deadline for the donation cards to be returned has been extended to August 1st 2008.

And to those who already have a donation card, I know we told you that if you lose the card you'll be fined RM50. Now on top of that, a police report will be made to ensure that the donation card and the money is not 'embezzled' or used for the wrong purposes. Please remember that this is all in the name of charity so do listen to your conscience.

That's all for now,
Weng Yee.

A little information about them donation cards.
So you basically take these orange cards from us and start collecting donations from your friends and family.

You can't go around asking strangers for money.
You can ask your parents for money.
You can donate to yourself.
You can donate to your friends.
You can ask anybody you know.
You can SHOULD collect more than the minimum RM100. =)

You also really shouldn't go around extorting money from your friends *cough*ben*cough*russell*cough*. Ask them nicely. =)

You MUSTN'T lose these donation cards. A RM50 fine will be imposed if any of these cards go missing as they are really legal documents. So don't lose your cards!

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Let's get it started.

After much delay we will finally be giving out the donation cards.

We'll be giving it out during break tomorrow for those who are interested.

Please take note that this is an event organised by us as individuals and that it is not related to Sri KDU at all. However, only Sri KDU students, teachers and their family members are allowed to participate as this camp is not open to the public. So please do not ask friends from other schools. There are public camps that anyone can join if they are interested.
  • The venue will be at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort. Time will be 10.00a.m.(23rd August) till 4.00p.m. the next day(24th August).
  • Minimum donation is RM100 but collecting more is encouraged.
  • If you lose a donation card, the fine is RM50 so please take care of the card properly.
  • You are only allowed to ask for donations from friends and families. Please do not go around your neighbourhood ringing people's door bells and asking for money. And do not stand in the middle of a shopping complex and ask for donations. These are all illegal as you need a liscence to collect donations from the public like that.
  • Any individual who has health problems such as gastric are not encouraged to join the famine as we don't want to send anyone to the hospital in the middle of camp.

That's about it for now. For more details please don't hesitate to email us or see any one of us in school.

The us are: Weng Yee, 5 Mozart.
Trixie, 5 Mozart.
Pui Yi, 5 Aristotle.
Melissa, 5 Aristotle.

Do remember that places are limited so sign up quick!!

Promotional Video.

A short video giving a brief introduction to the 30 Hour Famine this year.

Fact #1

852 million people across the world are hungry, up from 842 million a year ago. Chronic poverty is a root cause of hunger. Poverty afflicts half the worlds population. Nearly 3 billion people live on less than $2 a day. Every year, 10.5 million children under the age of five die from diseases and malnutrition as a result of hunger.

D.I.Y Camp

It was 1997. World Vision Malaysia had just been formed, and was manned by a handful of staff. The Sin Chew Daily took the lead and organised the first 30-Hour Famine in Malaysia. Reports of the famine in North Korea shocked the world and funds poured in.

On the 10th Year Anniversary Famine A record-breaking 10,000 sponsors, donors, volunteers and campers took part in the largest camp ever. Also, the Famine spread its wings to East Malaysia for the first time!

This year, World Vision Malaysia is taking the famine to greater heights by giving people all around West Malaysia the chance to organize their own D.I.Y(Do It Yourself) camps.

Lasting 26 hours, DIY Famine Camps give an insight into the world of poverty in a fun and experiential way.

All campers will then come together at Bukit Jalil Stadium for an exciting 4-hour Famine Countdown event.

We will be sorting out all the nitty gritty details of planing the famine so all you have to do is raise RM100, bring yourself to the venue and give up food for 30 hours.

We'll be giving out the donation cards real soon so do spread the word among your friends as spaces are limited.

Get the hype up!

Just a brief introduction on World Vision and the 30-Hour Famine movement.

We'll be updating this blog as we get more details about the camp sorted out so check back often!

World Vision

30 Hour Famine

The 30-Hour Famine is a global movement against hunger and poverty. Famine participants go without food for 30 hours and get a glimpse of the dire conditions that children and families in need endure everyday.

They also raise funds, transforming their hunger into hope for children and families in need. The Famine aims to inspire and empower ordinary people to care for those in need, both locally and globally.
